In 2021, Disney will be launching an international general entertainment streaming service under the Star brand. The new Disney Star streaming service will be mirroring the Disney+ strategy which is a success by widely surpassing 60 million subscribers and using all of their own library content to launch a brand new platform, with similar technology.
The new Disney Star streaming service will consist content from the following brands:
- ABC
- FX
- Freeform
- Searchlight
- 20th Century Studios
Disney’s new streaming service will be launched under the Star brand instead of Hulu because Star appeals to a broader international audience as it is well-known in Asian countries.
On the other hand, Disney+ has been used as a subscription service that consumers pay for monthly, but now, Disney plans to offer a pay-per-view version of “Mulan” through the service as of 4th September in most territories that have access to Disney+. Disney will charge $29.99 to view the movie in the US, but that price could vary slightly in other countries, and Disney will launch the movie in theaters where they are open.
Soon, Disney+ is launching its own platform in Singapore as it started hiring recently.
