Massive blast near Oil India well in Assam, injuring 3

Three foreign officials who were at the site of Oil India Limited gas well number 5 at Baghjan, in Assam’s Tinsukia district to douse the fire at the field where fire is raging since 9 June after gas blowout has been injured. The operation is being halted off for now, where the well has been spewing gas and oil condensate uncontrollably since the blowout took place on 27 May which is endangering the biodiversity and wildlife in the region.

The Dibru-Saikhowa National Park and Maguri-Motapung Wetland which includes endangered hoolock gibbons and the Gangetic dolphins. The company has declared an area upto 1.5 km as Red zone to avoid untoward incidents, although several residents have been evacuated.
